Anita - Madhya Pradesh

Anita decided to complete 10th Grade after 25 years of dropping out of school. The past year has been that of multiple tasks, change, and excitement for her.
Anita hails from an orthodox family and was forced to drop out of school in 7th Grade so that she could get married. The oppressive environment at her in-laws compelled her to find a way to step out of the house. She decided to work as an ASHA worker and find a purpose for her days. The decision to enrol herself in Pratham’s Second Chance program was a bold step on her part. Anita would travel about 8 km each day to reach the centre. She managed her household chores, work and education with a smile on her face. In case of a medical emergency in the village, she had to rush as a part of her job and miss class for that day. But Anita would always find a way to make up for the lost time. Her efforts paid off as she passed 10th Grade with 57%.

Anita wanted to be a nurse. With a 10th pass certificate, she was eligible on the education front, but her age became a problem. But she did not give up. With the educational qualification, she is preparing for an exam for the Area Supervisor position of an ASHA worker.

Anita is one of the 308 candidates who appeared for 10th-grade examination through Pratham's Second Chance Program in Madhya Pradesh. Out of those, 294 candidates passed, thus making the state's passing percentage an impressive 95%.
